Lori Chavez-DeRemer — the American businesswoman and politician who has served as the United States Secretary of Labor since January 2025 — was born on this day — June 8, 1968 — in Hanford, California.

She is a graduate of California State University, Fresno, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Science.

Prior to her appointment to the Cabinet, Chavez-DeRemer represented Oregon’s 5th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives. She previously served as the Mayor of Happy Valley, Oregon, from 2010 to 2018. Before her career in public service, she was a small business owner, co-founding several medical clinics.
