Mike Mullen – the American four-star admiral who served as the 17th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the 28th Chief of Naval Operations – was born on this day – October 4, 1946 – in Los Angeles, California.

He is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, the Naval Postgraduate School, and Harvard Business School.

Admiral Mullen is a visiting professor at the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs.
