Arthur W. Radford – the American four-star admiral who served as the 2nd Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Commander-in-Chief of the United States Pacific Command – was born on this day – February 27, 1896 – in Chicago, Illinois.

He was a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and attended flight training at Naval Air Station Pensacola.
