John Shalikashvili – the American four-star general who served as the 13th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Supreme Allied Commander Europe – was born on this day – June 27, 1936 – in Warsaw, Poland.

He was a graduate of Bradley University, George Washington University, and the Naval War College.
