Today, we tend to think of economic and racial egalitarianism as closely yoked causes. One hundred years ago, this was far from the case. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, many of those Americans most skeptical of corporate power were also the most hostile to racial equality, while those Americans who most adamantly rejected economic reform hoped to mobilize racial minorities as allies.

Admiral Arthur W. Radford was born
on this day in 1896

Arthur W. Radford – the American four-star admiral who served as the 2nd Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Commander-in-Chief of the United States Pacific Command – was born on this day – February 27, 1896 – in Chicago, Illinois.

He was a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and attended flight training at Naval Air Station Pensacola.

Programs offering bachelor’s degrees are stuck in a predictable mold: Most classes are between three and four credit hours; each semester’s load is between 12 and 18 credit hours; each semester’s length is 15 weeks; each year is two semesters; four years makes a degree.
