Marco Rubio — the American politician and lawyer who has served as the United States Secretary of State since January 2025 — was born on this day — May 28, 1971 — in Miami, Florida.
He is a graduate of the University of Florida, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, and the University of Miami School of Law, where he earned a Juris Doctor.
Prior to his appointment as the nation’s top diplomat, Rubio served as a United States Senator from Florida from 2011 to 2025, where he was the Vice Chairman of the Select Committee on Intelligence. Earlier in his career, he served as the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives and practiced law in Florida.
